The 27 hectares surrounding the Dimora delle Balze estate have been reclaimed to give the land a new life, reconnecting with its past and rediscovering its deepest roots. In the 19th century, the “Passu Ladru” district—located between the cities of Noto and Syracuse—was known as a place of raids and brigands, who would often steal from the surrounding fields. Passo Ladro, which takes its name from this very district, was created as a project aimed at restoring the social, natural, and vital balance of the land. Its purpose is to rediscover the untapped potential of these territories, starting from those of the Val di Noto. Steeped in history and tradition, these lands are shaped by a culture of value that we strive to express every day through the production of healthy and genuine Sicilian organic products. Initially, the area comprised around 27 hectares of untouched but uncultivated land, abandoned for decades by owners who were the
descendants of farmers who had left in search of a better future. We chose to reclaim the land in order to give it a new life, to reconnect with our history and with our deepest roots. Then we went even further, meeting the local neighbours—farmers in their eighties who still carry the memory of this land.
